The new headquarters of the Angelini pharmaceutical group represents a structural and architectural solution without wasting land.For its realization, use innovative construction technologies capable of reconciling seismic safety, aesthetics and sustainability.The new headquarters of the Angelini pharmaceutical groupThe new headquarters of the Angelini pharmaceutical group was created with the intention of contributing to redevelop the area, the Appio Tuscolano district of Rome, 2km from the center of the capital, using innovative construction technologies in order to obtain maximum architectural quality, structural and seismic safety. , as well as high levels of sustainability.For the construction of the work, which covers an area of ​​approximately 12,600 square meters, the old building built in the 1940s, the historic headquarters of the company, was renovated, proceeding in two project phases.All this was possible with a zeroing of the waste of soil and without having to suspend the work activities of the pharmaceutical company, guaranteed by selective reallocations of personnel.The scope of the workThe new headquarters of the Angelini pharmaceutical company was conceived on the basis of an architectural project that won an international competition.Thus was born a tailor-made urban Headquarters, ahead of the times, an executive headquarters that includes offices and services, an auditorium and an underground parking floor, all connected through a careful and calibrated articulation of internal and external spaces.The structure created therefore derives from a detailed study of the demolition phases of the existing building, deciding to eliminate waiting times and dividing the construction site into two processing areas, with a first phase of demolition and excavation and a subsequent construction phase. .Construction phases: phase 1 (green) and phase 2 (blue)Structural features: the three salient pointsThe head office of the Angelini pharmaceutical group features cutting-edge construction, construction and plant engineering performances, where the three innovative features that enhance the structure are:The design of the structures was carried out with the primary objective of guaranteeing seismic isolation, allowing the increase in the period of the structure to vibrate, moving it away from the area of ​​the response spectrum to greater accelerations.The seismic protection solution was made possible by means of base insulation, consisting of a total of 242 elastomeric type devices with soft compound and flat surface sliding.The seismic isolation made it possible to increase the period of vibration of the structure (T = 2.94 seconds for the first mode) by operating the desired decoupling of the superstructure from the seismic motion of the ground, and was also calibrated from the point of view of stiffness in a way to avoid torsional effects due to the irregular planimetric arrangement of masses and rigidity of the superstructure.This choice has made it possible to obtain a structure that maintains functionality under seismic actions for the various limit states, integrating the plant and building design by making suitable disconnections in the areas of the joint and the interface between the under and superstructure.2. Sizing of the insulation systemA further milestone achieved was the sizing of the entire insulation system in order to limit for both phases, the first which saw the partial construction of the building and the second during which the works were completed, the eccentricity between the center of mass of the superstructure and the stiffness of the system itself, effectively imposing a calibration with a double constraint.3.
