Firing a weapon: Sandfield Drive

A Sandfield man, 34, was arrested at about 9 p.m. July 4 after he twice fired a handgun from the back door of his home.

Police surrounded the man’s house. They knew the man and at least one other occupant of the home, because they had been called there on previous occasions.

Police called a woman living in the home and asked her to tell the man to exit the house with his hands up.

The man complied. He denied firing the handgun, saying he didn’t even own a firearm. The man gave police permission to search his back yard, and police found shell casing from a bullet near the back door.

Disorderly conduct, resisting police: Smith Road

An intoxicated woman, 29, was arrested at about 4 p.m. July 5 after she behaved in a disorderly manner outside Paponetti’s Pizza & Pub, 5805 Smith.

Someone called police and said the woman was walking around Brookgate Shopping Center and screaming. She flopped to the ground and continued to scream.

As police arrived, a group of people flagged them down and said the woman was walking toward Clutch Automotive on Hummel Road. Police drove toward the vehicle repair shop and saw the woman stumbling in an open bay door.

The woman wandered toward Hummel, and police told her to stay out of the road. She warned police not to touch her. Her speech was slurred and she was unsteady on her feet.

When the woman continued walking toward the street, police grabbed her arm. She struggled and yelled, “No!”

She threw herself to the ground as police tried to place her in handcuffs. They noticed that her face was bleeding, so they called paramedics.

The woman refused to tell police what drug she had ingested. She was taken to Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights, where she was placed in restraints.

An unidentified man attacked a Pennsylvania man at about noon June 21 outside Teamsters Joint Council 41, 6511 Eastland.

The victim said he was driving on Eastland and passed a Lexus. He glanced at his rearview mirror and saw the driver of the Lexus motion for him to pull over. The victim and the driver of the Lexus pulled into the Teamsters parking lot.

Both men stepped out of their cars and started arguing. The next thing the victim remembered was waking up in an ambulance.

When police arrived, the man’s face was bleeding. Paramedics treated him for head and face injuries and a possible concussion. They took him to Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights.

A witness across the street said the driver of the Volvo punched the victim during the argument. The victim fell to the ground and the attacker drove away.

The victim’s car had a dashboard camera that captured part of the incident. On June 24, the victim sent police three still photos from the dash cam video. He said one of the photos showed the attacker’s license plate number.

Police contacted the man connected to the plate number. He refused to answer any questions without speaking to an attorney.

The victim selected a different man in a photo lineup. Police told the victim they would keep the report on file.

Theft by deception: Larkfield Drive

Someone stole $5,200 from a Larkfield man’s bank account between June 25-29.

The victim told police that someone had transferred $5,000 from his Citizens Bank savings account to a Chime online banking account June 25. He closed his account.

After opening a new Citizens Bank savings account, two additional fraudulent transfers, both for $100, were made from his account to a Varo online bank account.

The victim checked his Citizens Bank account information and noticed that a person named Derek in Brooklyn, N.Y., was attached to the account. The victim didn’t know Derek.

A worker at Shell, 5918 Smith, stole at least $300 in cash from the gas station’s Ohio Lottery register between June 11-30.

The thefts were captured on store security video. Police called the worker after she was fired and asked her to turn herself in. She agreed to do so.

Breaking & entering, vandalism: Snow Road

Someone broken into the former Brookview Elementary School, 14105 Snow, and damaged the interior of the building.

The break-in was reported at about 11 a.m. July 5. Both floors were vandalized. Interior windows were broken. Fire extinguishers were discharged. Toilets and bathroom sinks were smashed. Chairs were destroyed.

Police training equipment, including 15 portable radios, were thrown against walls and floors in the gym.

Police haven’t yet determined how entry was gained. The interior of the building was last checked June 29.

Breaking & entering, vandalism: Holland Road

Someone broke into the former Brook Park Memorial Elementary School, 16900 Holland, as well, and damaged the interior of the building.

The break-in was reported at about 3:30 p.m. July 5. Broken glass from classrooms, the gym and a door was scattered throughout the building. Debris was in the hallways and classrooms.

Someone broke glass in a courtyard entry door to get inside.

A wallet containing a driver’s license, credit cards and about $100 in cash was stolen between 3 a.m. July 2 and 10:45 a.m. July 3 from an unlocked car parked outside a house on Liberty Bell.
